Saving Conversations

Often in a class like this one you will want to save a record of your conversation. You need to know how to do two things. First, you should know how to use your log window in The Palace. This is useful in almost all your conversations, because it can be very difficult to keep up with a fast-moving conversation. I have several things open during all my Palace sessions: the main Palace window, where the pictures and dialog appear; the toolbox (Options menu: Toolbox), which allows quick access to several commands; and the log window. The log window keeps a running record of everything that is said in the palaces and rooms that you visit, including what you use ESP and whispering for, although obviously not what others whisper among themselves. Keeping the log window open at all times gives you the chance to review the conversation and figure out what people are talking about in case you miss something. To open your log window, either click the appropriate button on your tool box or use Options menu: Log Window. You can move and resize the log window to make the best use of your particular screen.

The log file is a little different. This is a disk file separate from your log window. You open the file by using File menu: Open Log File. This starts recording all the conversations in the palaces and rooms you visit from that point on only. Do not expect it to save everything in your log window up to that point! Therefore, your best bet is to open the log file at the very beginning of your session and close it again just before you quit the program.

If you forget to open the log file right away and want to save the conversation, then your best bet is to copy and paste from your log window into a word processing or text file. I'll assume you know how to do that.
