Dr. Albert L. Ingram of Kent State University uses The Palace in many
of his classes to provide a synchronous learning environment. Although The
Palace software is several years old now (making it ancient by Internet
standards) and even though the company that owned it is out of business,
there is a thriving community of people who both run Palaces and
communicate using the program. In many ways, it still offers one of the
best ways to communicate online, with an almost unique combination of low
bandwidth and customizable graphical environment. Even though we at KSU
are also beginning to use the 3D Active Worlds chat environment as well,
we expect to continue using The Palace for a while to come.
This site is the best place for students in Ingram's classes to get
information on The Palace: how to get and install it, as well as how to
use it. Click on the buttons at the left to get more information about
specific Palace topics.
