Evaluating WWW Resources

Evaluating Links

Take a look at the web page in the frame below, which is taken from http://members.tripod.com/~hanac/fablinks.html . Try following some of the links on the page.

The author claims that having a link on this page is an honor, claiming "I am very picky about who gets on this list." Looking at the pages that are included, however, leads to a different conclusion: many of the links don't work. They lead to error messages.

When trying to assess the reliability of a web page, it is sometimes helpful to look at the links provided by the author. Links are a way for a web page author to connect other pages of similar content to his or her own. By looking at the quality of the links, you can frequently draw conclusions about the page.
