Why Instructional Analysis?
Thus, the key purposes of Instructional Analysis
are
- to understand what we are trying to teach,
- to ensure that nothing is left out of the teaching that
could be critical for performing some task (including doing
well on a test or other assessment),
- to ensure that we don't teach people things they already
know, thus wasting their time and our effort, and
- to ensure that we don't teach people things they don't need
to know.
All of these reasons are important. Although we may not be
perfect at it, it is clear that a good instructional analysis can
go a long way toward focusing what we teach.
