Writing for the Web is not necessarily like writing
for other media. Here are some general points and guidelines:
- People tend to scan Web pages, not read them, so Web writing needs to
be short, direct, and to the point.
- People don't much like to scroll on Web pages. Keep pages short enough
to fit on about two screens at most.
- It is tough to force people to read pages in any set order. Therefore,
pages need to be written so that they are essentially independent and able
to be read in any order.
- Longer written material should be presented so that it can be easily
printed and read offline. Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files are a good way to do
that.
