| Groove is a peer-to-peer software system specifically
designed to support small group collaboration. In Groove, one defines a
working space, invites members of the group to join the space, and adds and
removes tools as needed. Most of these tasks are performed without the need
for a server. Among the tools available in Groove for groups to use are
- Threaded discussion
- File sharing
- Text and audio chat
- Web browsing (possibly synchronized)
- Co-editing in Word and PowerPoint
- Sketchpad
- Concept mapping
- Voting
There is a free version of Groove that supports three such spaces. In
general, this is a good one for students. Other versions cost $50 or $150
and add unlimited spaces and some database and programming capabilities.
